Metabolism: How to Increase Your Metabolic Rate?

September 30, 2007

Metabolism is a process by which the body burns the calories and convert them into useful energy. High metabolic rate uses up the energy stored in the form of fat. Metabolism to some extent depends on:

a) Our Body Structure (our genes, our health conditions).

b) Depends on our daily schedule, our daily activities.

c) Depends on our age.

d) Depends on the type of food we have.

CAUTION: Pills with the tag “fat burning”, “increases Metabolism ” do not work for long time. They disturb your digestive system.

To increase Metabolic Rate,

a) MUST MUST MUST….. Do Exercise. Doing regular Exercise uses up the extra calories and in turn increases the Metabolic Rate. Most important of all. Muscle Building and Aerobics is one way to increase Metabolic Rate.

Know more muscle building workouts and exercises at http://www.weightloss-health.com/Articles3.htm

b) Diet also plays a major role. Right food do increase your metabolism. Taking proper meals at proper time with proper nutrition increases the Metabolic Rate. Makes sure you have your breakfast as it sets up the momentum for the day. Other wise you are starving yourself which is decreasing your Metabolic Rate. Least number of calories per day for a good Metabolism is 1200 calories.

c) Don’t get duped by false pills. Keep patience and follow normal workout.

d) Try to eat more carbohydrates. It shoots up your Metabolic Rate.

e) Avoid alcohol.

f) Park further away and walk. Use the stairs instead of the elevator when possible. Walk to the post office instead of getting into the car. Take your dog on a daily walk. Do more activities around the house to burn energy instead of wasting money on pills and potions that don’t work.

g) Incorporate a walking routine to increase metabolism at least three to four times a week. Walk 30 to 40 minutes each time. This is the best way to increase your metabolism. The magic key lies with the walking or running on treadmill as per your body need. YOU CANT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.

h) Be committed to eating smaller meals at regular intervals. Prepare food in advance and bring it with you. Never eat sporadically and plan each meal. The common mistake is to skip meals and eat too little during the day. This makes you vulnerable for eating junk food later in the day. Eating to lose weight takes planning.

Pictures Of Landscaping - Using Other Peoples Ideas To Design Your Landscape.

Pictures Of Landscaping - Using Other Peoples Ideas To Design Your Landscape.
 by: Steve Boulden

One of the most common searches on my site is for pictures of landscaping. So I know that a lot of folks rely on photos of other peoples designs to get ideas. But at the same time, while I do have a large picture directory of other peoples projects on my site, the most common questions I receive are still related to specific shapes and design ideas.

It would seem that with as many pictures of landscaping there are to look at online, just about everyone could find a close match to their own property that could be copied. It would seem so…..if every yard was square or rectangular. However, the fact is that most yards aren’t square or rectangular. So even with the endless landscaping ideas and examples out there, it’s still highly unlikely that you’ll find an exact match to the shape of your property.

Don’t tell anyone… but even as a professional, I still use pictures of other peoples landscaping as an educational tool and to get new ideas. However, unlike most people, I don’t search for an exact idea to copy. I look for unique, creative, and new ideas and pieces of the puzzle.

Now here’s a piece of advice and the point to this entire article.

When looking at pictures of landscaping, pay attention to the details, ideas, and principles that are universal to most designs. Look for the things that are common and repeated often by different designers. These are the elements that look good because they are generally based on basic principles of art. These are the things that will probably incorporate well into your own design project regardless of shape.

Other peoples landscaping pictures are a great design tool to help you get your project done. However, instead of hopelessly searching for your exact layout, borrow several ideas from several different designs. You’ll save yourself a lot of frustration and have a much better chance of creating something unique to your own property.

No Kidding-Preparation The Key To Preventing Abducted, Missing Children

No Kidding-Preparation The Key To Preventing Abducted, Missing Children
 by: Scott Irwin

Did you know that, according to figures from the RCMP, approximately 186 children are reported missing each day in Canada? That’s one almost every 7.75 minutes; recent US statistics are much more alarming, somewhere in the United States approximately every 40 seconds a child is reported missing. In fact, by the time you have finished reading this article, the odds are that another child has been reported missing or abducted.

The thought that a child could be taken or go missing is a very real fear that all of us, as parents, share. Naturally, we want to keep our children safe, but we can’t watch over them 24 hours a day. I am frequently asked by parents for advice on what they can do to protect their children. I’d like to share some advice with you so you can reduce the risk that such a tragic event will ever befall your family.

First, teach your child his or her full name, address, phone number and your full name. That way, if they are ever lost, they can give this information to a police officer. You should also teach them how to dial 0 or 911 in the event of an emergency. After all, the sooner they can make that call for help, the better. Whether going to school, band practice or a friend’s house, they should always follow the same route without taking any shortcuts.

A family password is another great idea to help protect your child. It should be something that is easy to learn and remember, and should be unique to your family. It could be tied to a special event- such as a birthday or vacation-or it could be your maiden or middle name.

Because there are bound to be times when your older children are home alone, there are a few simple rules they should follow. Make sure they understand not to let strangers in the house while you are gone. If someone calls, tell your kids to take a message, and that they should never say you are not home.

Safeguarding your kids when home alone is one thing, but how can you protect them when out in public at a mall, movie theatre or grocery store? One-way is to tell them to go to the information booth or checkout counter if you should become separated, and be sure your kids know where they are located. You should also tell the to yell and fight if a stranger should try to hurt them, or force them to go somewhere else. Creating a scene can prevent an attempted abduction.

One tip you may have heard from schools is to sew your child’s personal information into their clothes or personal items, such as backpack. Unfortunately, a stranger can use this same information to assume the role of a family friend and gain the trust of a child. A better solution is to contact and register with a child identification service that will provide you with coded iron-on identification labels.

If the unthinkable should happen, and your child is missing or abducted, contact your local police force immediately. In this situation, a Child ID kit, in which the child’s fingerprints, recent picture, specific identification features as well as a hair sample, is truly the most helpful item parents can possess. In the event that this precaution has been overlooked, provide them with as much detail about your child as possible, including a recent photograph, a hair sample from a pillow or hairbrush and, if there is a search planned, a recently worn piece of clothing.

Finally, make the time to talk to your children regularly on ways to stay safe. It takes repetition and positive reinforcement for them to learn these tips. Activities and coloring books promoting safety are a very good idea for very young children, and the time you take to prepare them now will go a long way toward protecting them from harm in the future.

Olive Oil, the Healthy Choice

September 30, 2007

Olive oil is a healthy choice over other fats such as butter, palm and coconut oils because olive oil is a monounsaturated fat that does not increase levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

Dr. Sears’ Extra Virgin Olive Oil is an exquisite tasting imported oil from select regions of Umbria and Sicily, Italy. The environmental conditions, weather, exposure to the sun and nature of the soil in these regions contribute to the high quality of these local, organically grown olives. But thereĀ’s more to this olive oil than an exquisite flavor alone. Dr. Sears’ rigid controls and special processing techniques preserve the quality and antioxidant properties of this very special olive oil.

Dr. Sears Extra Virgin Olive Oil is incredibly rich in antioxidants including squalene and polyphenols (such as tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein). These compounds are powerful antioxidants.

Antioxidants are important to your health because they scavenge free radical molecules known to increase general cellular inflammation, which is the origin of affected health.*

What’s in Dr. Sears Olive Oil and how does it work?

Antioxidants Fight Free Radicals

Free radicals are extremely reactive chemicals that can wreak havoc in the body. Scientific evidence suggests they are the cause of accelerated aging and many other health concerns. Antioxidants help deactivate free radials.

I have researched this topic and come up with some very interesting information and data.

Soil Quality & Processing Ensure Potency

The soil quality in the select regions of Umbria and Sicily, Italy ensure the maximum levels of antioxidants. These special olives are processed under the mildest possible conditions to prevent the oxidation of these powerful antioxidants and then packaged under nitrogen to preserve oil quality. The squalene and polyphenol content is certified by an independent laboratory.

Finest Quality and Flavor

Extra Virgin is the finest grade of olive oil and only given to oil from the first pressing. Dr. Sears’ Extra Virgin Olive Oil is pressed from the finest cultivars organically grown for an extraordinary flavor that is fruity and well rounded. It contains NO pesticides

Olive Oil extraction is the process of extracting the oil present in the olive.

Traditional Method ? Olive Press: The Olive Press has been in use since Roman times, it works by applying pressure to the olive paste does separating the liquids (oil and vegetation water) from the solid material. The two liquids are them separated by standard [[decantation]].

This method is the most widely used in the world, and if adequate precautions are taken it’s still a valid way of producing high quality olive oil.

First the olives are grind in to an olive paste, for this end large grindstones are used. The olive paste generally stays under the stones for 30 ? 40 min, this has three objectives:

* guarantee that the olives are well grind

* malaxe (i.e. remix continuously) the olive paste allowing the small olive droplets to join

* allow the fruit [[enzymes]] to work producing some of the oil aromas.

The traditional method is a valid form of producing high quality olive oil, if after each extraction the disks are properly cleaned from the remains of paste; if not these will go in fermentation producing of flavours (called defects) that will contaminate the subsequently produced olive oil. A similar problem can affect the grindstones, that in order to assure perfect quality, also require cleaning after each usage.

Technical Aspects: Proper cleaning with the use of high quality olives will produce high quality oil.

The grinding work of the grindstones, when compared to the modern method, is more adequate because it grinds the drupes pulps while touching only slightly the nut and the skin. This reduces the release of the oil [[Rancidification|oxidation]] enzymes present in these organs.

When compared to the modern method the introduction of water is minimal, does reducing the washing of the [[polyphenols]].

The exhausted paste, called [[Pomace]], has a low content of water making it an easier residue to manage.

Modern Method: The modern method of olive oil extraction uses an industrial decanter in order to by [[centrifugation]] separate all the phases.

In this method the olives are crushed by the use of a rotating mechanical mill, that grinds the olives in to a fine paste.

This paste is them malaxed for 30 to 40 min in order allow the small olive droplets to agglomerate. The aromas are created in these two steps throw action of fruit enzymes.

Afterwards the paste is pumped in to an industrial decanter where the phases will be separated. To facilitate the extraction process with the paste there is added a certain quantity of water.

Sinolea: This is the most recent method to extract oil from the olives, it’s based on the different [[Surface_tension| surface tension]] of the vegetation water and the oil, these different physical behaviour allow the olive oil to adhere to a steel plaque while the other two phases stay behind.Decanter).

The main advantage of this method is the high quality of the oil produced. By reducing the contact of the paste with water the losses of prised aromas and [[polyphenol]]s are minimized. Several high quality oils are marketed has "Sinolea Extracted"

First Cold Pressed ? Cold Extraction

Several oil are marketed has first cold pressed or cold extraction, this is a denomination describing the temperature at which the oil was obtained.

First Cold Pressed refers to oils obtained with the Traditional method, wile Cold Extraction refers to oils obtained by the Modern or Sinolea method.

The temperature of malaxation and extraction is crucial because it has an important effect on olive oil quality. When high temperatures are applied the more volatile aromas are lost and the rate of oil oxidation is increased, producing therefore lower quality oils.

The temperature is adjusted basically by controlling the temperature of the water added during these two steps. High temperatures are used to increase the quantity of olive oil obtained from the paste.

Consumer point of view: High quality olive oil can be obtained by all the methods if proper measures are taken. Olive oil quality is more dependent on the quality of the olives themselves and on the time they have to wait from harvesting to extraction, than on the extraction method itself.

Decorative Pillows For Pizzaz

Decorative Pillows For Pizzaz
 by: Patricia Bowlin

Decorative pillows can add just the right touch to any room in your home. Whether you choose the bedroom, living room, den, or office, you will find many places that just the right pillow that is decorative as well as practical can fit into your decorating scheme.

Monotone or tone on tone decorating is all the rage today for smaller rooms.

The clean, uncluttered effective of monotone decorating schemes expands and opens up the space so that it appears much larger and more airy.

Yet monotone color schemes can end up being rather blah- without the right touches of color here and there. That splash of color can be added through the use of a brightly colored decorative pillow here and there. Even two-toned color schemes, such as the ever popular black and white, can be greatly enhanced by adding wondeful color by using decorative throw pillows in bright red, forest green, ocean blue or yellow.

Place these color accents in areas that you want to eye to travel to such as underneath your favorite print or painting, near a piece of sculpture or in a corner that would be rather dark without the added color.

Pillows that are decorative can also add a varoiety of interesting detailing and texture to a room.

Crushed velvet makes a rich feeling pillow for decorative placement. Smooth, soft suede or faux suede will be an inviting addition. Braid, tassels, interesting architectural details such as buttons or pleats add just the right touches of texture and softness to any room in your home! Simple and elegant.

Boudoir pillows or neck pillows placed on the bed or in a chair near the bed add a beautiful elegance reminiscent of days gone by.

These pillows are not only decorative; they are very useful for comforting a sore neck. You’ll often find boudoir pillows in soft, smooth satin, rich velvet, lace, crochet covers and more. These can be used in a lady’s bedroom but also have a place in the more masculine bedroom design.

For a less feminine look, simply select suede, leather, corduroy, denim or another masculine feeling fabric in a darker color. The man of the house will be happy to rest his tired neck on these pillows- and when not in use, they of course add a nice decorative touch.

Floor pillows are often overlooked- but are great near the fireplace or in the den.

These large comfy, cushy pillows, stacked in different colors and fabrics, can be pulled out and made into a comfortable pile of cushions for enjoying a fire and playing a board or card game on the floor. Fringed edges, piping, and buttons add detail to these pillows.

Choose sturdy construction and covers that can be zipped off for washing so that your floor pillows will be decorative and practical for years to come. Floor pillows come in a huge variety of sizes, so consider creative a stack of tapering sizes to create a colorful accent in a corner where the decorative cushions can become comfy pillows at a moment’s notice. An unusual and unique touch, wouldn’t you say?

Pillows that are decorative can be found in just about any price range that fits your budget. Elegant satin and silk coverings with braid and lace can cost quite a bit. Pillows that are just as decorative and colorful but made from less expensive materials can also be used if you have to stretch your decorating dollars.

One of the great things about pillows being used decoratively is that once you purchase a good quality pillow, you can recover it should you ever change your color scheme or get tired of it.

You can purchase pillow covers or make them yourself easily at home. It doesn’t even require much sewing skills to put together a simple, practical, yet unique pillow cover for decorative cushions. You can also embellish a plain pillow with your own buttons, ribbons and pieces of lace. As you wear out clothes that have unique buttons, save them for just such a project.

Your friends will all ask WHERE you got that unique designer pillow that is so decorative and different!

Pillows, whether decorative or practical, need to be aired out and cleaned periodically. Depending on how much use the pillow receives, you may need to add this to your spring cleaning or do it several times per year.

When you purchase a pillow for decorative purposes, read the label to learn about cleaning instructions. Many pillows that have decorative covers that zip off can have the cover machine washed and the inner pillow form placed in a cool dryer with a dry sheet to fresh it.

Other covers must be dry cleaned and almost all pillows that don’t have removable covers must be dry cleaned. It’s always nice to place your decorative cushions, soft pillows and even your bed pillows outside on a warm spring day to air out in the breeze. This will bring the freshness of the outdoors right into your rooms.

Using decorative pillows make it very easy to add some instant pizzaz to your home decor!
