Comfort and Achievement

October 31, 2007

I’ll share with you one of my deepest insights about achievement comfort and the desire to control even the slightest bump in the great ride we have come to call Life.

When someone asks me a question I try to avoid giving them a straight answer because I believe an answer can only complicate things, I find that the best way to help them is to pose a better question. You see an answer has a certain finality whereas a question can open new possibilities. I find that people need something certain and finite to grab onto, some believe that this can define their inner being provide happiness and wellbeing for the rest of their life. A great example is science, science is a way of giving answers right? WRONG, no scientist in the world has found an answer, but the greatest scientists have found great questions! Questions that gave us a better understanding about the world around us. Can you remember when you where young and the world seemed so exciting, how every color and every smell had an identity of its own? You didn’t know that "red" was red but it certainly made you feel in a way that no one else could or can possibly understand.

We all evolved to the person we are today due to our keen sense of curiosity. I don’t know about you but every time I asked the same question to different people I got a different answer, the people that gave me the answers didn’t evolve nearly as I did, my guess is that this same thing happened to you too.

As we grow older and older we rarely make any questions and subsequently our evolution rate declines. We become self absorbed and goal oriented, we feed our pompous ego with "achievements" that don’t feel quite right but we do them anyway because they make us seem important and give us comfort and ease. With that stated, I’m not surprised that I rarely see a truly happy man. We have made happiness into achievement, which is tragic. You can’t achieve something that you have always had but you have been trained systematically not to see.

You reach to the top and you realize that it isn’t the status that matters but what brought you there, are you proud about the things you did to get there, did you enjoy the ride? I’m not talking about ethics but about essence, it is really sad to realize you have wasted your life to achieve something that you never longed for just to gain approval or comfort or status or wealth. Everything is right if done for the right reasons but something "right" can be wrong if done for the wrong reasons.

Now I have a question to you, which path is the one that will give you fulfillment satisfaction, will help you evolve and when you look back in time will make you feel proud and good about yourself?

Home Insurance And Hurricane Preparations

Home Insurance And Hurricane Preparations
 by: Joseph Kenny

The violent winds, rains and storm damage from hurricanes can devastate communities and cause billions of dollars worth of destruction. The losses from hurricanes this year alone have surpassed that from almost any other natural disaster in years. The risk to your home and possessions can be enormous and you really should be considering insurance cover for hurricane damage if you live in any area that is exposed to the risk of hurricane. As well as insurance cover however, there are other steps you can be taking to prepare for, and minimise the damage to your property and risk to your family that hurricanes pose.

Since the Atlantic hurricane season begins in June and continues through till the end of November, there is a significant proportion of the year during which you should be prepared in some way for hurricane threats. Some of the preparations below will be required by insurance policies, others will not but are still helpful to you and your family. Some of them may even be able to bring down your insurance policy price as the insurance company recognises that you are safer than you otherwise would be and are therefore less likely to be making a claim.

Be Prepared

First of all you should be familiar with the terms of your insurance policy and any disaster preparedness and response plans they have. These will help you in the case that disaster does strike or you find yourself in need of making a claim.

If you think you may need to evacuate your area, you should contact the appropriate authorities before hand to know what those requirements will be. You should have a plan formulated in advance and if there are shelters nearby you should know where they are and how to get to them.

Keep supplies such as food, water, gasoline, portable radios and batteries stored somewhere safe so they will be available to you in the emergency. Several flashlights with extra batteries should be included. Copies of important identification and insurance documentation would also be useful in certain situations to speed up applications in the event that wide spread devastation occurs. Medical supplies such as aspirin and aspirin free painkillers, antacid, bandages, gauze and disinfectant are also useful.

While insurance is a very important step you should be taking to protect your possessions and family in the event of disaster, there are many other steps you can take to prepare for the situation also.

Five Tips for Unplanned Pregnancies

Five Tips for Unplanned Pregnancies
 by: Sandra Montano

Pregnancy is often a pleasant surprise. Of course, there are times that pregnancy can come as a shock. Although most unplanned pregnancies are still pleasant surprises, it doesn’t make the situation much easier. There are steps you can take to make an unplanned pregnancy a pleasant experience.

First, speak with a friend or family member you can trust. You’ll need someone who will be supportive and not condescending. It’s already an emotional time for you. The last thing you need is the added stress of defending the pregnancy.

Second, once you’re past the initial stages of finding out about your pregnancy, prepare yourself for the varying responses of other people. You may get receptions that are congratulatory, and you may get some who are judgmental. Be prepared for both. Also remember that what’s done is done. It’s not constructive to look back in regret, anger, or despair. It is better to look forward and to make the best of the surprise situation.

Third, don’t feel as if you’re alone. Unplanned pregnancies happen to many people. There are support groups both online and offline available to help you through this confusing time in your life. Seek their counsel. Don’t be afraid to voice your own fears and concerns. You may find the sessions very therapeutic.

Fourth, prepare to inform the baby’s father. Obviously it won’t be easy, and you’ll get a varying range of responses from excitement to denial. Hopefully, the father will be supportive and can help you through the pregnancy.

Fifth, be aware that your body is in a different state. Because you’re now pregnant, your body is flooded with hormones and is transforming every day. Take this into account when talking with people and prioritizing your life.

Santa Brought you a Digital Camera–Now What?

Santa Brought you a Digital Camera–Now What?
 by: Nicole Sandler

Although the final figures aren’t yet tallied, the 2006 holiday season was a very good one for digital cameras. Chances are you either received one or you gave one! So, now that you’re shooting away, what do you do with all the images? If you don’t know, you’re not alone! Millions of digital photos are taken every day, with the figure growing exponentially. The biggest problem most of us face is storage. What to do with all of these photos?

The best time to start organizing your photos is before you have them spread out all over the place. Organizing the digital images into folders on your computer’s hard drive is one option—with two major dangers: If the hard drive crashes, all of your images could be lost forever. And, images take up a lot of hard drive space, making your drive more likely to crash! So, you need to back up those images.

You can get a backup program, and back up of all the photos on CDs. Great unless you lose the CDs or have a fire, flood, hurricane or earthquake. Again, your family’s most precious possessions—your photos—are lost forever!

The same is true for those who simply take the memory cards to their local photo kiosk, print the pictures, and erase the card to re-use. This is even worse than the old film way of doing things because you don’t have the negatives in the event something happens to the prints. So, some people just keep piling up the memory cards! Not only is this impractical—you have no idea what pictures are on each card—it’s also ridiculously expensive!

South Florida based Legacy Group Unlimited has the solution! Legacy will show you how to Preserve, Organize, Share and Enjoy your photos both the new digital ones and the old paper photos that are rapidly fading, peeling and in danger of being destroyed.

Plus they offer just about anything you could ever want to make from those images—from leather-bound photo books to Hollywood-quality DVDs! Skin Care Secrets ? You Can Have Beautiful Skin

October 31, 2007

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, just like your heart or your kidney. Its job is to protect your insides so it is important for it to be healthy. If you eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water, keep it clean, and protect it from the sun, your skin will stay healthy all your life.

A skin care program is the combination of skin care products and a routine that will be most beneficial to the skin. You will first need to consider your diet and type of life-style since these two factors play an important role in the health of a person’s skin.

Diet - Eat Well

What you put into your body has a huge effect on how the outside looks and feels. Eating healthy foods is important. Remember to feed and nourish your skin by eating the proper foods. Give your skin a drink too. Eight glasses of are essential to maintaining your skin’s elasticity and suppleness, say experts. The water you choose can be sparkling water, mineral or straight from the tap. You still can’t beat the old fruit and vegetable diet when it comes to good health and a good complexion.

Hygiene - Keep your skin clean.

You need to give some thought and consideration to the type of makeup you use. And be sure to clean your tools regularly. Things such as cosmetic brushes get dirty and can carry bacteria and germs and may cause skin irritations and breaking out. A good way is to soak brushes for about 10 minutes in a dish of warm, soapy water using mild liquid detergent or baby shampoo. Rinse and blot excess moisture with a towel and stand the brushes, handle end down, in a tall glass until they are thoroughly dry.

Keep environmental pollutants from being absorbed into the skin with a good moisturizer that also acts as a skin barrier. Check the labels for those with added Vitamin A, C and E, which help block the penetration of pollutants.

Exercise - keep fit

A good exercise program such as aerobics can activate and rejuvenate the skin and improve circulation and blood flow. Also, body sweat triggers production of sebum, which is the skin’s own natural moisturizer.

Sleep - get an adequate amount of quality sleep

Be sure to get enough sleep. An adequate amount of quality sleep can help recharge and rejuvenate the body, making it more resilient. Lack of sleep can lead to tired lifeless skin and circles under the eyes. To avoid morning eye or facial puffiness, sleep on your back so fluid doesn’t collect there. And, you can keep the oil from your hair away from your face by wearing a head covering or a soft headband when you go to bed.

De-Stress - Relax

Get serious about stress reduction. Skin conditions such as acne appear on many people who are stressed out, and chronic skin conditions then to get worse. Set aside quiet time to meditate or daydream. Breathing exercises are excellent for reducing stress. And keep in mind that too much stress can affect your overall health as well as your complexion. The Visible Causes of Water Damage

October 31, 2007

The Visible Causes of Water Damage
 by: Kimberly Duncan

In order to prevent water damage, you must first learn what causes it. This article will cover the visible causes of water damage, the ones that are easy to self-detect.

Rainwater:

Rainwater will accumulate along the foundations or beneath the floor during rainy seasons unless directed away by proper drainage.

Gutter & Drain:

Clogged gutters will push rainwater under shingles, or will cause water to travel down the walls internally. A lack of drains can cause an overflow. Gutters must empty far enough away from foundation walls or else water will accumulate, leading to damage and a wet basement.

Windows and Doors:

Unprofessionally installed windows and doors allow water to penetrate into the wall. Damaged seals around windows or doors can cause windblown moisture penetration.

Leaking Roofs:

Old roofing materials can expose the roof deck to water intrusion and damage especially around chimneys and exhaust fans. Old shingles will curl and crack, allowing moisture intrusion. Cracked chimney caps allow water into interior areas of the chimney. Flat roof drains can clog and hold water on the roof, increasing the risks of a leak and a possible collapse of the entire roof under the weight of the water.

Attics:

Improper attic insulation and ventilation allows heat to escape, turning rooftop snow into an ice-dam. Ice dams will force moisture under roof shingles where it can drip into the attic or walls.
